how many people have died in school shootings?

Gunfire on school grounds occurs most often at schools with a high proportion of students of color—disproportionately affecting Black students.

Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens.

Children exposed to violence, crime, and abuse are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol; suffer from depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder; fail or have difficulties in school; and engage in criminal activity.

School is the last place where kids should have to worry about gun violence. Our children deserve better. Our country deserves better.

Instead of arguing over the politics and stuff, lets just ask the families and those people affected how we can help them? Are the people who were affected, are they okay? how are they doing? do they still cry themselves to sleep? do they eat enough? are they healing?

Ethan Robert Crumbley

Parents of teenager who shot dead four classmates in the US jailed for manslaughter

The Crumbleys are the first parents to be convicted of manslaughter in a child’s school shooting. Their son Ethan is serving life in prison for murder after killing four students at Oxford High School, near Detroit in Michigan, in November 2021, when he was 15.

In a court filing, Ms Smith said putting her in prison “does nothing to further deter others from committing like offences” and said “any gross negligence” were mistakes “that any parent could make.”

Why does trump say he didnt do anything wrong?

These data suggest that school-based interventions to support students in crisis and act on warning signs are vital for addressing school gun violence.

Okay americans, have your guns. just be really fucking safe with them. for the sake of these children.

The Secret Service’s second study of incidents, from 2008 to 2017, revealed that in nearly half of the shootings, the firearm was easily accessible or was not stored securely.22

This is a notably difficult characteristic of school violence to study because while law enforcement generally does ascertain the source of the gun, authorities often do not release this information publicly and the media rarely report this information after the incident. Yet knowing how the weapon was obtained is absolutely essential for those tasked with keeping schools safe from potential school shooters in the future.

School districts can help prevent school shootings by issuing notices to families about the critical importance of secure firearm storage in keeping schools and students safe. Presently, nearly three million students across the country live in a school district that issues such notices.23 But there is more work to be done–this amounts to only 6 percent of the United States’ nearly 50 million public schoolchildren.

In addition, policymakers should promote public awareness programs that can encourage secure gun storage and induce behavior change.

We Are aLL policymakers

Only one in three gun owners living in states with child access prevention laws know that their state requires secure storage of guns.32 To facilitate effective enforcement, state legislatures need to make sure their laws are precisely written to cover access by anyone under age 18 and are well known among gun owners. It is also crucial to collect data on and monitor the implementation of these laws to ensure that they are not enforced in a discriminatory manner toward overpoliced communities or lead toward increased incarceration in communities.
